🌟 2-Day Desert Itinerary from Errachidia to Merzouga & Back 🌟

DAY 1 🏜️

Errachidia → Ziz Valley → Rissani → Merzouga → Sahara Camp (160 Km)

After an early pick up from your hotel or Riad in Errachidia, you will start your desert adventure south along one of the most scenic routes in the region: the stunning Ziz Valley. This lush ribbon of date palms and traditional villages winds through dramatic cliffs and is dotted with ksars (fortified villages).

🌴 You will have stops along the way to take photos of the panoramic oasis views, visit palm groves, or simply soak in the silence of the desert edges. Continuation toward Rissani, an ancient market town and former capital of the Tafilalt region, known for its traditional souk where locals still trade dates, spices, and handmade goods.

🏛️ You will explore the market, visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif (ancestor of Morocco’s royal family), and stop at a fossil workshop where you’ll see how prehistoric marine fossils from the Sahara are polished into beautiful pieces.

🐪 Upon arrival in Merzouga, on the edge of the vast Erg Chebbi dunes, you will have the chance to choose your experience: camel ride into the dunes at sunset or an adrenaline-filled quad biking tour across the golden sands. You will reach your desert camp nestled among the dunes where you’ll enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, music by the fire, and a peaceful night under the stars.

Spend your first night in a desert camp — standard or luxury depending on your preference.

DAY 2 🚘

Merzouga → Khamlia Village → Ziz Valley → Errachidia (160 Km)

After an early wake up, you will watch the sunrise over the dunes, a magical moment of silence and golden light. After breakfast, return by camel or 4×4 to Merzouga village.

🎵 In the morning, you will take a short desert tour around the area with a visit to Khamlia Village, home to a small community of Black Moroccan Gnawa musicians. You will enjoy a traditional music performance and learn about their Saharan heritage. Optional visit to a nomadic family nearby or check out a local desert well system (called khettaras).

🌄 After your short cultural tour, departure back to Errachidia, retracing your route through the Ziz Valley with new views and light along the way. You will enjoy the landscapes of oasis life, dry mountains, and palm groves as you travel north before arriving to Errachidia where the desert tour end with a drop off at your hotel or Riad. ✨
